Adamantas is one of the Mediterranean's greatest natural ports, which, in combination with the extraction of various metals, aided in the ancient growth of Milos Island. Cretans arrived on Milos in 1835 and built the existing port following a failed raid on the Turks. Adamantas is the island's tourist hub, with a plethora of hotels and restaurants, but it retains the beauty of a beach village with cobblestone streets.
